What is smart thinking?
The ability to define and solve problems by finding and applying relevant knowledge.
Smart thinking helps one acquire new information in an effective and efficient manner, use that information to solve problems in a way that creates value for society, and make sense of the world around them.
Pre-Requisites of a Critical Thinker (a.k.a Smart Thinker)
- Finds reasons to support claims
- Reasons to help being rational
- All reasons are backed by evidence
- All ideas are contradicted to cover all bases of an idea (arguments).
- Identifies and considers premises.
- identifies claims and arguments
Smart Thinkers constantly assess their structures and frameworks rather than "What they hear and remember", and develop a much deeper more effective appreciation of situations and events
What is Social Dimension and how do smart thinkers deal with it?
The ability to be always upto date , be willing to reflect on their own views and positions or scrutinize the way they think about the world.
How To deal with it?
Frequently asking the following questions,
- Are my views consistent with one another?
- What assumpotions underpin my views?
- Am i open to new ideas and alternative conclusions?
- Can i look at this issue from another perspective?
- Why did this happen?
- What should we do next?
- What does it mean?
It is best dealt when the right questions are asked and more frequently this covers all bases of an issue.
How to be a Practical Critical Thinker?
When the opportunity of solving a problem presents itself
- Identify the problem
- Analyze from several perspectives
- Develop a few possible solutions
- Decide which solution is the best fit
- Take action
- always ask "WHY" before "What"
